A NEW course exploring how a city might have looked will begin next month.
History teacher Dorothy Hamilton’s course, titled The Durham that might have been, will be held over two Friday morning sessions in February.
It will focus on planning issues which faced Durham in the 1940s.
Dr Hamilton, who has been teaching local history in Durham for nearly two decades, said: "The 1940s were an important time for Durham.
"Some of the schemes which were put forward to tidy up the derelict sites and improve the traffic flow, if they had gone ahead, would have made a very different Durham to the one we know today."
The sessions, on February 5 and 12, will run from 10.30am to 12.30pm at Shakespeare Hall, on North Road, Durham.
