A YOUNG woman is to spend two months working for a children’s charity, after winning a contest with Vodafone.
Jennifer Pharoah, from Durham, will draw up proposals for overseas projects for Coco, a charity working for health and education for poor children, after being chosen through the Vodafone Foundation’s World of Difference UK programme 2009.
The 22-year-old was one of 500 people chosen from 1,100 applicants to the scheme.
The Vodafone Foundation will pay each charity £2,500, of which the winner gets the balance once tax and National Insurance have been paid.
Vodafone will also give each winner a mobile phone to capture their experiences.
Miss Pharoah got involved with Coco when she abseiled off the Tyne Bridge, raising £250.
She said: "This is such a fantastic opportunity to have. Charity has always been my passion and I’m so honoured to be chosen by the Vodafone Foundation.
"This is exactly what I want to do with my career and I can’t wait to get started and make a difference."
Miss Pharoah begins her placement this month.
