A HOUSING company will be holding its first football tournament for youngsters in an east Durham community during the October half-term holidays. The event will be staged by East Durham Homes at Helford Road Muga, in Peterlee, between 10am to 3pm on Friday October 30. The event has been arranged following requests from residents, community groups and volunteers who wanted to provide a positive activity for young people during the school holiday. Around 12 teams from both primary and secondary age groups will represent their own estate area and compete for the ‘Kier Cup’.
East Durham Homes has arranged the event which is being sponsored by Kier North East and Kier Build & Maintenance.
The Kier group is one of East Durham Homes contracting partners who carry out decent homes works and property improvements.
Other agencies involved include Groundwork East Durham, Durham County Council, Peterlee Town Council, Durham Constabulary, Blackhall Community Centre and local resident representatives. Peter Eldrett, East Durham Homes Customer Involvement Officer said: "I would like to say a big thank you to the Kier group and other agencies for their support. "This is an excellent opportunity for the teams from Peterlee, Horden, Blackhall, Easington and Thornley to get involved. "There will be a mixture of both established teams and community teams coming together to interact and to compete with each other in a friendly social environment."
