TRAVEL writers from across the country are touring rural County Durham.
Writers, journalists and photographers are being given a tour of Teesdale, Weardale and Derwentside in the hope they will be impressed by the county’s hotels and attractions.
They began their trip, dubbed the Durham Dales Travel Writer Showcase, on Sunday by visiting Knitsley farm shop, near Consett, the Tanfield Railway and Beamish Hall Hotel, near Stanley.
During Monday they will see Binchester Roman Fort, near Bishop Auckland, the Wurlitzer Organ at Howden-le-Wear, the Weardale Railway, Killhope museum and other Weardale attractions.
On Tuesday, the focus moves to Teesdale, with Raby Castle, The Bowes Museum, High Force and Eggleston Hall on the itinerary.
The trip is being organised by Durham County Council and Steve Reed Tourism.
A council spokesman said: "The event is a good opportunity to highlight some of our excellent hotels, food providers and attractions."
