A NEWCASTLE United fan shed more than four stones so he could squeeze into his football shirt.
Magpies fan Joe Gallagher was advised to get more exercise by his doctor.
Two years on, his weight has dropped and he can pull on his favourite colours.
Mr Gallagher, from Esh Winning, near Durham, can also use gym equipment at Durham County Council’s Deerness Leisure Centre much more easily.
Care assistant Bob Hitch said: "When Joe first came in he couldn’t fit on the exercise bike and found the machines difficult.
"Now he’s gone from 25 stones 7lbs to 20 stones 12lbs and uses the equipment without any problems.
"He’s a lot more energetic, bouncy and aware of everything. He’s always so happy and socially he has made a lot of friends."
Lifestyle GP referral officer Terry Hird said: "Joe is a great example of what can be done if you set your mind to it.
"He’s a real character and very dedicated about his fitness regime. He wanted to fit into his Newcastle shirt and he’s done it through dedication."
