PUPILS from four schools in Stanley are getting ready to show off their talents.

The second Stanley Learning Partnership Superstars Showcase is being held at Stanley Civic Hall tomorrow.

Children from South Stanley Infant and Nursery School, South Stanley Junior School, Bloemfontein Primary School and Greenland Community Primary School are involved.

They have taken part in local auditions battling it out for a place in the ‘live’ show, giving them an opportunity to shine outside of the classroom.

Auditions began in January with over 70 children across the partnership taking part and judges selected a total of 26 acts to star in the show.

Stanley Learning Partnership’s chief executive Mark Stewart said: “Having a platform to express yourself and participate in the arts is equally as important to SLP as maths and literacy.

“The SLP Superstars Showcase 2020 is a chance for us to see our children in a different light, irrespective of age, academic ability or background.

“The final acts have been created by the children; they have chosen their own music, choreographed their own dances and written their own sketches.

“Staff have then worked alongside them to create something imaginative and unique.

“The children that perform in the show are a huge credit to their families, teachers and friends. Their creativity and work ethic are outstanding as they have endlessly rehearsed to perfect their performances.”

The show will also include performances from the SLP Collaborative Choir, which features choristers from all four schools.

It is part of a three-month initiative with Stanley Town Council and the sponsor, Rustica Italian Restaurant.

Councillor Les Timbey, who is the leader of the council, said: “Stanley Town Council are honoured to be part of the SLP Superstars Showcase for a second year.

“This initiative is a chance for children’s talents to develop and their confidence, resilience and determination to grow.

“We have watched with delight how the final acts have grown from being nervous in their first audition to the superstars you will see perform on stage.

“The SLP Superstars Showcase 2020 has given STC the chance to support the children of our community and create a platform for them to shine which we hope will open doors and create new opportunities for them as they grow.”
