BUS commuters will benefit from new buses with audio and visual next stop announcements which aim to improve accessibility for blind and partially sighted people.
Stagecoach has worked with sight loss organisations including the Royal National Institute of Blind People, Guide Dogs and Newcastle Vision Support to improve the accessibility of their services.
As a result of discussions, 18 new "talking buses" have been added to the company's fleet in the North East.
Lewis Winton, regional campaigns officer for RNIB in the North East, said public transport is a lifeline for people who cannot drive, including those registered sight impaired, so the initiative will make a real difference to those travellers.
