MEDIEVAL re-enactors helped bring the past to life at a church’s heritage weekend.
The event was staged at St Helen’s Church in Kelloe on Saturday and Sunday as part of the national Heritage Weekend programme.
It was also a chance for people to have a look at the church, which has been undergoing renovation.
The Grade 1 listed building, which is on the “at risk” register, had repairs done on its leaky roof last year and is undergoing further work to prevent water from getting into the church.
The Regia Anglorum re-enactment group put on displays of sword fighting, cooking and crafts.
Visitors also got to watch a stonemason at work, finding out more about the tools and techniques used to maintain the church, which houses a 12 century cross to St Helen and is where Victorian poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning was baptised.
