AN art exhibition exploring the links between climate change, nature and society is opening this weekend.
The exhibition, which is being held in Neville’s Cross, Durham, is bringing together professional artists from the area, school children, students and a local knitting group.
The ‘Encounter 2019’ exhibition takes place in the Ustinov College Cafe and community room, in Sheraton Park, and opens on Sunday, March 3.
Professor Glenn McGregor, principal of Ustinov College and a professor of climatology, said: “Climate change is one of the major issues facing society today.
“As a university, we’re helping society understand and tackle it.”
“Encounter will explore how climate change, people and the environment interact and we’re very pleased to have both professional artists, art students and local residents contributing.”
The project includes artists from TESTT, Empty Shop arts organisation, Bearpark Artist Co-operative, Durham University and art students from the Royal College of Art, London and Northumbria University.
It has also involved young people from Durham Johnston School and St Margaret’s CE Primary School.
An opening event will be held on Saturday, March 2 from 4pm to 7pm. This event will also include live performances. All are welcome and refreshments will be provided.
The exhibition is on until Thursday, March 14 and is open from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
Entry is free and is open to all.
