THE Sunday for Sammy concert reached number three in the official UK music video charts– with only Elvis Presley and Cliff Richard finishing higher this Christmas.

After playing to two full houses totalling 10,000 people at Newcastle Metro Radio Arena in February, the DVD of the concert is now delighting audiences at home.

Sunday for Sammy is staged to raise funds to support the next generation of North Eastern performers with training, expenses and equipment.

Cast regulars include Tim Healy, Billy Mitchell, Kevin Whately, Denise Welch with Brenda Blethyn and Johnny Vegas among this year’s surprise guests with music from Trevor Horn, Ralph McTell and a McElderry and Ryan Molloy duet.

Show producer Ray Laidlaw said: “Everyone looks at the charts at Christmas and to have a DVD at number three above the likes of Queen, Whitney Houston and other greats is a testament to both the quality of the show and also the North East’s passion for good family entertainment.

“Sunday for Sammy is here to help young entertainers progress their chosen career in the world of music, drama, dance and entertainment. When someone buys our DVD their money goes towards helping the up and coming stars of tomorrow.”
