CHRISTMAS characters from the past will come to life on a city’s streets next weekend.
Street entertainers will perform for shoppers in Durham City on December 13 and 14 as the countdown to Christmas continues.
Characters Mr Scratchit and Mr Scrooge will tour the city on their carol singing carriage on Saturday, while there will also be magicians, puppets and Victorian street entertainment throughout the weekend.
Dickensian characters Fagin and Dodge will be out on the streets, along with cockney barrow boys Kenny and Ronnie trying to sell the latest must-have Christmas gifts to unsuspecting passers-by. Adam Deathe, Durham BID’s new Business Engagement Manager, said: “Christmas in Durham City is a truly unique experience and with these great acts coming to its streets, the city will be very much ‘Open for Christmas’
“There really is something to help everyone get into the festive spirit.”
Entertainment will be between noon and 3pm in the Market Place, Framwelgate Bridge, Elvet Bridge, Claypath and North Road.
