A COMMUNITY centre is to host its first major event following major renovations.
Blackhill Community Centre, in Blackhill, near Consett, is to hold an open day and Christmas fair this Saturday.
Between 10.30am and 3.30pm visitors will be able to see the results of the refurbishment work which started in September.
As well as stalls, raffles and refreshments there will be an art exhibition and demonstrations by the Consett and District model railway society and the Crazy Craft group.
The Centre, in Derwent Street, is home to 18 different community groups and classes which meet regularly and cover a wide range of interests, ranging from art, calligraphy and guitar classes, to craft, bridge, whist and bingo groups.
During the open day, visitors will have an opportunity to find out about all groups and classes, when they meet and how residents can join.
The centre’s rooms are also available for hire for private parties, group meetings, and other events.
