A CHRISTMAS card depicting a wintry scene in Consett has been launched by a community band.
The festive image of Christ Church in the snow is being used to spread seasonal cheer by Consett Brass.
It is based on a photograph taken on a snowy day two years ago by band master David Jackson and was painted Consett artist Michael James.
The picture was then photographed and reproduced by Geoff Mawson and is the first in a series of five to commemorate the centenary of the First World War, with more being produced every year until 2018.
Mr Jackson, who is also a teacher at Consett Junior School, said: “We hope these will be sent to people who live all around the world and could be something of a collectors’ item.”
Consett Brass is playing carol concerts at Annfield Plain Methodist Church on December 13 and St Ebba’s Church in Ebchester on December 20 with both shows starting at 7pm.
The band is also playing at schools, supermarkets and care homes as well offering to perform live shows to people who are housebound over the Christmas period.
The cards cost £3 for five to cover costs. To order a pack or request a telephone carol for a loved one call Mr Jackson on 01207-504143.
