TRADERS have topped up their qualifications after completing free training to boost their businesses.
In the run-up to Small Business Saturday next month, Durham County Council has been helping traders in Seaham and Chester-le-Street improve their skills.
The council organised free training in customer service, business administration and food hygiene to owners and employees of small businesses in the areas.
Cllr Neil Foster, Cabinet member for economic regeneration, said: “As the lifeblood of our towns and villages, it’s vital we all support our local high street businesses. I’d like to congratulate all of the traders and staff on their well-earned qualifications and encourage everyone to come and see what Seaham has to offer.”
Mark Milroy, manager of The Lookout cafe at Seaham Marina, said: “It was excellent training, delivered in a fun and friendly way.
“All of my staff members attended the courses and benefited from it.”
Small Business Saturday aims to help small businesses across the country by encouraging people to ‘think big, shop small’ and support local traders.
This year, Seaham is holding its activities on December 5 to coincide with the Christmas light switch-on and fairground rides organised by Seaham Town Council.
