A NEW school bus service running between Chester-le-Street and outlying villages is taking to the road.
Service 889 is being provided by Go North East for Year 7 pupils who study at the North Lodge site of the town’s Park View School from and to their homes in the Pelaw, Pelton Ouston and Urpeth areas.
The service starts on Monday (November 17) and will make journeys to and from school easier and safer for the youngsters.
They currently have to make two short journeys to get to the North Lodge site.
The move follows the construction of a new traffic light junction at the Northlands roundabout, which is near the site and has pedestrian crossings.
Park View headmaster Ian Veitch said: "I am truly delighted that this service will run as it means that a substantial number of young people now have a safe route to North Lodge.”
He added: “Together with the changes at the Northlands roundabout, it has been a good year for the school's campaigns to safeguard our children."
