A NEW photography competition aimed at exploring a city from a young person’s perspective has been launched.
This Is My Durham is open to anyone aged 16 and under.
Young photographers are invited to send in a favourite photo they have taken showing what Durham City means to them, whether it was captured on a camera, mobile phone or tablet.
The contest is being organised by the Durham Photographic Society and the Durham City Chamber of Trade.
Details on how to enter are available by emailing: infotimd@durhamps.co.uk
The closing date for entries is Saturday, July 19.
All entrants, and others, are invited to a Foto-Fest at Durham Town Hall on Saturday, July 26, where there will be advice on photography, printing, mounting and presentation from Durham Photographic Society members.
Everyone who enters will get a free A4-sized print-out of their image and the first 200 entrants will have their print-out mounted.
Judges will select 24 images for an exhibition in the town hall foyer during August.
Peter Jackson, vice-chairman of the chamber of trade, said: “Durham’s people, architecture, landscape and streetscape offer a wealth of opportunities for some great photography.
“However, we’re looking for young people to give us a fresh, contemporary, even candid take on what they think about life in their Durham in 2014.”
Joe Grabham, from Durham Photographic Society, said: “We want to encourage lots of young people to take part in This Is My Durham.
“It’s a great way to express what you think about Durham, have some fun and learn new skills.
"Many of today’s mobile devices produce excellent results and this can be a great way to get into photography as an interesting and rewarding pursuit. We’re looking forward to lots of young people getting involved and trying out their photo skills.”
