DURHAM University students have held a tea party for local pensioners as part oif a week to promote volunteering.
The event, in St Oswald’s Church Hall, was organised by the university’s Student Community Action (SCA).
The aim of the event, held today (Wednesday, February 26) , was to bring the community and students together .
It was one of several activities for Student Volunteering Week, which runs until Sunday (March 2) The aim is to encourage volunteering at Durham University and consolidate strong links with the community.
SCA aims to serve the areaby setting up student-led, community facing projects and one-off events.
This week Durham volunteers have held a Harry Potter themed event for disabled children and young people in Durham and Chester-le-Street, packed food parcels for the charity A Way Out and helped with conservation activities in the Old Durham Gardens.
On Saturday volunteers will be at St Oswald’s Church again to help with a tidy- up of church grounds.
