PLANS are in place to refurbish an east Durham church to accommodate its growing congregation.

Gateshead-based Gradon Architecture has put forward its contemporary vision for transforming Seaham Methodist Church on Tempest Road, Seaham, by submitting proposals.

The 1970s brick building currently lacks space to accommodate the different community groups that pass through its doors each week.

But with the ambition to grow its work in the community and expand its services further, the church believes that Gradon Architecture’s design plans will help to bring its facilities into the 21st century.

Reverend Gill McBride, a minister at Seaham Methodist Church, said: “Operating many of our church activities out of just one dedicated room has been increasingly challenging.

“This lack of space has put us under increased pressure to modernise our facilities.

“We’re delighted by the design vision put forward by the team at Gradon Architecture.

“At a time when other community buildings are closing in the local area, these proposals will help to secure our position in the community for the future, whilst also giving us a real wow-factor both inside and out.”
