CHILDREN have helped open a new Sainsbury’s store.
Pupils from Neville’s Cross Primary School were joined by headteacher Pam Monaghan for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new Crossgate Moor store, in Durham City.
The shop used to be The Lodge pub, formerly known as the Pot and Glass, and will be open daily from 7am to 11pm.
It is the first “fresh Sainsbury’s Local” in the North-East and its opening has created about 20 full and part-time jobs.
Store manager Andy Quinn said: “It’s really exciting to be able to open the store to the public for the first time.
“The children from Neville’s Cross Primary did a great job cutting the ribbon and I think they had a lot of fun.”
