A SCHEME to encourage children to walk to school has chalked up its millionth pedestrian journey across the country.

The Walk Once a Week (Wow) initiative, run by charity Living Streets, rewards children walking to school with collectable badges.

Children can record their journeys via their school’s interactive whiteboards using Living Streets’ Travel Tracker.

Maria Luisa Massagli-Gallagher, a teacher at St Godric’s RC Primary School, in Newton Hall, Durham, said: “Children really enjoy using the Travel Tracker whiteboard and are eager to see who is the class of the month.

“The badges are also popular and more children appear to be walking to school.”
