ROADWORKS start in the Gilesgate area of Durham this weekend.
As part of its annual roads maintenance plan, Durham County Council will be resurfacing Sunderland Road and Moor Crescent.
The work on Sunderland Road will involve road closures over the next two weekends - Saturdays and Sundays February 8 and 9 and February 15 and 16.
Sunderland Road will be closed between Mackintosh Court to the east of Shepherd’s Court, including the junctions with Mill Lane and Musgrave Gardens.
A signed diversion route via the A181 Sherburn Road and Dragon Lane will be in place.
This will be followed by a separate road reconstruction and resurfacing on Moor Crescent, between Sunderland Road and Ashdown Avenue.
This work begins on Monday, February 17 and will take four weeks.
John Reed, the council’s head of technical services, said: “We recognise that these works will result in some inconvenience to drivers but they are a necessary part of our road maintenance programme.
“We are trying to keep any disruption to a minimum and would ask people to be patient while these improvement works are being carried out.”
