MEMBERS of East Durham College’s management team and governors are getting set to go head-to-head in the kitchen.

The Hell’s Kitchen-style event will be held at the Peterlee-based college’s Scene1 Restaurant on Thursday, June 13.

The event will see senior college figures, including principal Suzanne Duncan and vice-principals Eugene McCrossan and Sally Hudson spend a whole day in the kitchen, learning and perfecting the menus set for them by head chef Joe Keenan.

Along with catering students from the college, the senior team will have to prepare a number of dishes to serve up to paying customers on the night under the watchful eye of Mr Keenan.

Diners will also be able to see the pressures of the kitchen as the service will be streamed on to screens in the restaurant via a live feed.

All the money raised by the event, from the sales of the food, will go to Mark Swan, 11, who is raising money so he can travel to America to compete in the World Dwarf Games, in Michigan, in the US, in August.

Sharon Littler, Programme Leader for Catering & Hospitality, said: “We are hoping to raise as much money as possible for Mark’s great cause and give him the chance to represent Great Britain in the World Games.

“Mark will also be working in the kitchen on the day, alongside his brother Luke who currently studying on a catering course at the College.”
