A CAMPAIGN is underway to collect a million cans in east Durham, to clean up the environment and raise money for good causes at the same time.
The Million Can Challenge is aimed at mobilising the local community in attempts to collect drink cans over the summer.
The Peterlee-based East Durham Trust are leading the project and are looking for community groups and individual volunteers to offer their support.
Local people will be carrying out can collections and local drop-off points will be established throughout the area.
Volunteers created the words "1 million" in cans outside of Community House, in Peterlee, today (Monday, June 3) to launch the project.
