TWO garden sheds were destroyed and a utility room was slightly damaged by a fire in a north Durham town in the early hours of this morning (Thursday, May 30).
Firefighters were called to the blaze at Harperley Gardens, Catchgate, near Stanley, at about 3.30am.
County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service station manager Fraser McGuffog said: “Two two appliances, from Consett and High Handenhold respectively, attended the blaze.
“When we arrived on the scene it looked as through the back of the house was on fire, but it was not until we went around the back that we realised it was two sheds that were well alight.
“Four breathing apparatus and two hosereels were used to extinguish the flames. We are able to prevent the fire from spreading to the house.”
Mr McGuffog said the fire destroyed two sheds, as well as some wheelie bins. A utility room built on to the side of the house was also slightly damaged.
The cause of the fire is not known.
