PLANS have been unveiled to build housing on the site of a former fire station.
Social housing provider Home Group has announced plans to build 18 houses for rent on a site in Woodstone Village, near Fencehouses.
Details of the proposed £1.9m development will be unveiled at a community consultation event to take place at Fencehouses Community Centre on Wednesday, May 29 from 4pm to 7pm.
Emma Richardson, Home Group project manager, said: "We’ve owned the former fire station for a number of years and used it as a depot but it’s now surplus to requirements.
"As a social housing provider we’re constantly looking for areas of land we can utilise to provide high quality homes for local people on social housing waiting lists.
"It makes sense for us to use land which we already own.
"We will have plans for the site available for people to inspect. It’s really important to us to hear views from as many people as possible before we go ahead with building these new homes."
The proposal is to build 11 two-bedroom homes and seven three-bedroom homes on the site, which stands just off the A1052.
The homes will be available to those from the local area in need of social rented housing.
