A COMMUNITY centre which will celebrate its fifth anniversary next month says it is now working on plans for an extension.
The trust which runs The Fulforth Centre, in Sacriston, says the centre has been so popular that it now requires further room to grow.
The building was completed in June 2008 after eight years heard work by the Sacriston Community and Sports Trust and opened to the public the following October.
It is home to community activities including a playgroup, new age kurling, citizen’s advice, zumba, line dancing, primary multi-sports, ladies club, and bingo as well as a Community Cafe which is open six days a week and extra sessions during the school holidays.
In 2009, a dedicated car park and village square was added, followed in 2011 by a multi-use games area.
Last year, a play area the following year and solar panels were also installed.
Organisers say their future plans for the centre include an artistic entrance feature to the park and an extension to the building to create a dedicated youth suite and additional meeting rooms.
Trust chair Linda Surtees said: "We couldn’t have done it without the support of our funders and partners, and we thank them immensely for helping us to get to where we are today.
"A thank you also must go to the hardworking volunteers who support our centre week-in, week-out".
