PRIMARY pupils held a Geordie assembly
to say hello to a visiting teacher from Asia.
The children from Roseberry Primary and Nursery School, Pelton, near Chester-le-Street, welcomed Mrs Subashini Weerasinghe in North-East style today (Monday May 20).
Mrs Weerasinghe is in the region to celebrate international links between Chester-le-Street and Wassamulla where she, and two others who arrive on Wednesday, hail from.
Headteacher June Lee, said: “The pupils are thrilled to finally meet the teacher they have heard so much about.
“They have regularly collaborated with pupils from Gonadeniya School on joint projects and have been particularly impressed by the standard of the Sri Lankan pupils’ art work.”
Pupils sang traditional Geordie songs such as Bobby Shaftoe, the Blaydon Races and When the Boat Comes
In and told their guest about a typical school day in County Durham, their hobbies and interests outside of school,
They also told traditional tales from around the world and gave a dance.
