A SCHOOL has been recognised for its work on two arts project.
Stanley based arts organisation The Forge gave Roseberry Nursery and Primary School at Pelton its Art Project of the Term award.
Pupils worked with two professional artists. Mosaic artist Susan Warlock helped reception to year six pupils create three giant mosaics on the theme of anti-bullying.
Deputy head Louise Allison said: “These artworks have provided a highly attractive, permanent reminder in the playground of the importance of kindness, friendship and the unity of the school community.”
The project was jointly funded by the Chester-le-Street Area Action Partnership and the school.
In the second project, years five and six worked with artist Louise MacKenzie in the medium of casting, reflecting the region’s industrial heritage.
Nicola Haigh, co-ordinator at The Forge, said: “Roseberry Nursery and Primary School submitted two fantastic projects that were both original and involved team work.”
