DISABLED young people and adults with disabilities try different sports on a new project starting tomorrow in Chester-le-Street. (Wednesday May 15) .
The Sportability programme is run by Durham County Cricket Foundation, with support from Sunderland AFC’s Foundation of Light and social landlord Cestria Community Housing.
The aim is to provide fun and engaging sports sessions that allow participants to develop their sporting skills and techniques, as well as agility, balance, coordination and social skills.
Professional coaches from Durham Cricket Board and Sunderland AFC will run taster sessions in cricket and football, with further sports offered in the coming months.
Local young people and adults with disabilities are invited to attend along with their families.
Richard Hopper, of Durham County Cricket Foundation , said: “We firmly believe that sporting opportunities should be available to everyone and this project aims to achieve just that.
“There is much that can be learnt through sport, from improving coordination and fitness to making new friends and developing social skills.
“We’re really excited about the Sportability scheme and would like to invite anyone who is interested in finding out more to come along to our launch event tonight.”
The launch of Sportability takes place from 5pm to 6pm at Riverside Pavilion, Emirates Durham ICG
