NEW College Durham students who helped launch golden anniversary celebrations at St John’s Methodist Church, in High Pittington, in November by planting daffodil bulbs in the church grounds were invited back for a coffee morning to see the flowers. The students also helped decorate the church and school room for the event.

DURHAM RAMBLERS: The Durham Ramblers will do a nine-mile walk starting at Reeth, in the Yorkshire Dales, on Sunday (May 19). The walk starts at Reeth market square at 10.30am. CHARITY CASH: The Caritas Ensemble raised £135 for the Zikra Initiative, a project which helps communities in Jordan tap into tourism, by staging a concert at Durham University’s St Aidan’s College. DOROTHY’S DATE: Local historian Dr Dorothy Hamilton will give a talk titled Western Hill, Old Framwellgate and the building of St Cuthbert’s Church at St Cuthbert’s Church, North Road, Durham, on Thursday (May 16) as part of the church’s 150th anniversary celebrations. The talk, which begins at 7.30pm, is open to all and entry is free. Light refreshments will be served.
