A SCHOOL has triumphed in a debating competition.
The year ten debating team at St Leonard’s Catholic School, in Durham City, defeated rivals from Durham School in Durham Union Society’s Youth Speak debating contest.
During the event, the team supported the motion that television channels should provide equal broadcasting of male and female athletes and opposed the motion that oppressed minority groups should only use peaceful protest and never violence.
The event was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Durham.
Headteacher Simon Campbell said: “We are delighted with the success of the year ten team but also pleased that a range of pupils benefitted from the programme.
“I hope that others will take similar opportunities in future.”
