A CHURCH celebrates a landmark in its history with a special concert, this weekend (May 18).
The 150th anniversary of St Cuthbert’s Church, in North Road, Durham, will be heralded with an evening of classical and modern music performed by young people from the city and the surrounding area.
It is part of a series of events to mark the anniversary, which includes local history talks, a ‘Picnic in the Park’ and a flower festival.
Saturday’s (May 18) concert, starting at 7pm, will feature members of Durham Young Musicians and the VOX choir.
The young musicians group was formed more than 40 years ago, to provide a performance platform for young people in the Durham area.
Several past members have gone on to become professional musicians.
The VOX choir, conducted by Mish Kelly, is new, formed from the successful Durham Cathedral Outreach programme to attract young people into choral singing who may never have previously had the opportunity.
Tickets for the concert cost £3.50 and will be available at the door, on the night, with no charge for children under 16.
Refreshments will be available for all concert-goers.
