A CHINESE principal has visited a Durham college as part of an exchange programme.
Gu Jianming, principal of Shanghai Fengxian – a vocational secondary school in China, toured New College Durham.
He learned how the college was run and the responsibilities of its leading staff.
Mr Gu’s visit was part of a principal shadowing scheme organised by the British Council. New College is one of 15 UK colleges taking part.
New College principal John Widdowson said he was delighted to welcome him and the programme provided fantastic opportunities for improving college leadership and management.
Mr Gu also visited Durham Cathedral and Castle, the Oriental Museum, Beamish Museum and Lumley Castle.
In May, a senior manager from New College will travel to China for a return visit.
