PROPOSALS for a long-awaited medical centre have been approved by planning chiefs.
The £2m project in Thornley Road, Wheatley Hill will provide GP coverage for Wheatley Hill, Thornley and Kelloe.
It will include treatment rooms, a retail unit, quarters for the primary care trust, NHS County Durham and Darlington, consultation areas and office accommodation.
There will be specialist clinics for minor surgery, leg ulcers and diabetes, as well as space for other health-related services to create a one-stop shop in the future.
Proposals would involve the demolition of the existing surgery on completion of the new two-storey, 950sq metre medical centre and car park.
Planning officers have granted approval for the demolition of the existing surgery and its replacement with its rebuilding as a two-storey premises.
