MORE than 200 children from one primary school have signed up for a festive fun run in support of a hospice.
The 210 youngsters from St Hild’s CofE Primary, in Gilesgate, Durham, are the first to commit to St Cuthbert’s Hospice’s Santa Fun Run, planned for Monday, December 3.
Hospice supporters hope other schools will now follow suit.
The event sees children donning festive gear for a sprint or jog, with runs held at various locations.
Alison Luke, a teacher at St Hild’s, said: “We are delighted to take part in the Santa Fun Run. Not only will our pupils be able to enjoy the festive fun but they will be raising money for a very worthwhile cause whilst doing so.”
Last year’s Santa Fun Run, the Durham City hospice’s first, raised £1,607.17 for the cause.
Jade Mcardle, a community fundraiser at the hospice, said: “Last year was the first time we had held the Santa Fun Run and it was great to get involved with schools and community groups across Durham.
“Christmas is such a wonderful time for children and it’s great to see them getting into the festive spirit and supporting the care of people in their area.”
