SUNDERLAND’S STORY: A ‘Story of Sunderland’ weekend is being planned for this weekend (November 3-4). There will be family friendly activities at The National Glass Centre and St Peter’s Church from 10am to 5pm each day. Entry is free. Families are invited to explore the city’s cultural heritage.

HEALTH SCHEME: Heart Research UK has backed Heart of the Game, a ten-week course developed by Sunderland AFC’s Foundation of Light to give participants an insight into how their heart works, what makes a healthy diet and the importance of an active lifestyle. The course is set to run in every primary school in South Tyneside.

CHRIS MULLIN: Former MP and Labour minister Chris Mullin will talk about his critically acclaimed diaries in a public lecture. Mr Mullin will talk in Sunderland University’s Murray Library Lecture Theatre, on Chester Road, Sunderland, on Thursday, November 8, at 6.30pm. Entry is free. CLIMATE CHANGE: Durham County Council is expected to sign up to the Local Government Association’s Climate Local initiative tomorrow (October 31). The initiative involves councils working together to tackle climate change. The authority has recently installed solar panels on 36 of its buildings and nominated ‘eco champions’ among its workforce.
