SHED BURGLARIES: Police are investigating a shed break-in at Harelaw Gardens, Stanley, between October 10 and 11. A red petrol remote control Nissan Skyline car worth £200 was stolen. It has a black coloured spoiler with the word Nissan in white. Anyone with information should ring Durham Police on 101 and ask for PC Philip Carter at Consett.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: RSVP North-East is looking for volunteer drivers for the Derwentside GP Car Scheme to cover Stanley, Consett and Annfield Plain surgeries.

It involves taking patients who are unable to travel by any other means from their home to attend GP appointments. Expenses are reimbursed at an agreed rate.

CHARITY NIGHT: An evening of live music to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Relief and Willow Burn Hospice, near Lanchester, is being held at the Stanley RAF Association from 7.30pm on Friday, November 2. There will be raffles, tomobolas and a presentation of money raised this month to both charities. Entry is £1.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT: Consett Salvation Army is holding its Christmas Celebration concerts at the Empire Theatre in Consett on Saturday December 1 at 7pm The concert will include Consett and The Grove Primary School choirs, Consett SA Band and Songsters plus young people and guest soloist Joyce Shaw.

Tickets are £6 and available from the theatre box office. Part of the proceeds will be donated to the cancer unit at Hexham General Hospital.

FIREWORKS DISPLAY: A free fireworks display and bonfire is being held on Sunday November 4 from 4pm-7pm with a 23-minute display featuring music celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, Olympics and Paralympics starting at 6.30pm.

There will be catering and the event has been paid for by Stanley Town Council and organised by Stanley Events.

COFFEE MORNING: Photographs capturing memories of Consett displayed at Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in memory of local historian, Tommy Young’s wife, Joy, raised £2,345.49.

It was held at the Leadgate Salvation Army in September and featured a display of more than 4,000 photographs.
