A LOCAL judo club is celebrating after enjoying success at a regional competition.
Kyu-Shin-Do-Ryu, which trains in Chester-le-Street and Newbottle, had a team of ten players in the North East Championships in Newcastle and had an impressive haul of nine medals.
Sam Mordue, aged seven, won all his four contests with maximum scores to take gold.
Chris Mordue, of the club, said: “This was an important event and acts as a measure and training milestone in preparation for the British Judo Council Closed nationals which will be held in Hereford on 18th November.”
The group trains on Mondays at Newbottle Church Hall from 6.30 to 8.30pm and on Thursdays between the same times at the Hermitage Academy in Chester-le-Street.
New starters – adults and children - are welcome. For information visit (http://kyushindoryujudoclub.co.uk/
