HALLOWEEN EVENT: The Gates shopping centre, in Durham City, will hold a Halloween event on Saturday (October 27) from 11am to 4pm. Shoppers are invited to attend in fancy dress. There will be prizes for the best costume. Other spooky activities are also planned. The event will be held in the complex’s atrium. Entry is free.

BUTCHER’S DOG: Durham Town Hall will host the launch of a new biannual poetry magazine titled Butcher’s Dog on Thursday (October 25) at 6pm. Tickets are priced £4 and £6. PR AWARD: Deerness Gymnastics Club’s campaign to save its leisure centre, in Ushaw Moor, near Durham, and run it as a gymnastics academy has been shortlisted for a Chartered Institute of Public Relations Pride Award in the Best Sporting Campaign category. The club works with DebSharratt Communications. Ms Sharratt is also shortlisted as Best Freelance PR Practitioner. The winners will be announced on Friday night (October 26).
