WORK to create a new bus lane and improved pedestrian crossings is due to begin next week (October 29).

Durham County Council has drawn up the plans for the village of Croxdale, between Durham City and Tudhoe.

The B6288 will be widened to make room for a new bus lane out of Croxdale onto the southbound A167.

Two existing crossing points will be moved and two extra added.

The work, by the council’s in-house highways operations team, is expected to be completed during November.

The project is part of the Transit 15 scheme, aimed at making public transport more efficient and attractive and cutting congestion.

Coun Neil Foster, the council’s cabinet member for economic regeneration, said: “Transit 15 is all about improving infrastructure and reducing delays, thus improving the reliability of buses along seven corridors into Durham City.

“I realise that there will be some inconvenience to people during the works but I hope everyone will bear with us and we will complete them as quickly as we can.”
