WORK to resurface part of Feethams in Darlington town centre will start on Wednesday (October 24).

Darlington Borough Council will carry out the work, which is expected to finish on November 2.

From Wednesday to Friday, traffic will be able to use Feethams, but temporary traffic lights will be place. All car park entrances will be open as normal.

Starting on Monday (October 29) to November 2, Feethams will be closed to traffic from the Town Hall car park entrance to the roundabout at Victoria Road.

This is because parts of the road will have to be excavated before being resurfaced.

The Town Hall car park entrance in this part of Feethams will be closed from October 29 to November 2.

During this time, two diversions will be in place:

• To get into the Town Hall car park, traffic will be sent along St Cuthbert’s Way, turning left onto Stonebridge and Tubwell Row then left onto Church Row to use the car park entrance next to St. Cuthbert’s Church;

• To get into Beaumont Street car parks, traffic will be sent up Victoria Road, around the roundabout and then left onto Grange Road, right onto Houndgate and then right onto Beaumont Street where a car park entrance/exit will be available.

A council spokeswoman said: “The council has chosen to do this road resurfacing work during the week of October 29, as this is the half term school holiday, and therefore there will be no schools using the road to drop children off at the Dolphin Centre for swimming lessons.

“The council has worked with bus companies, including National Express and National Holidays, which use the bus stops alongside the Dolphin Centre, and agreed a temporary drop off and collection point on Beaumont Street.”

Coaches will get to Beaumont Street via Victoria Road, Coniscliffe Road and Houndgate and leave the temporary bus stop at the end of Feethams to get to the Victoria Road roundabout.
