CARE homes in two communities are to take part in a week of events focusing on the importance of sharing family memories.

A recent Bupa survey showed that many important events in familes’ histories are being lost.

The town’s care homes in Darlington and Stockton will take part in Memory Share Week, from November 12 to 18, helping people capture their memories.

An online tool, the Map of Life, has been created, to help people record their significant life experiences, such as weddings and holidays.

Siobhan Drane, Bupa’s community and partnerships manager, said: “We’d like to encourage everyone, young and old, to capture their memories.

“Especially in later life, reminiscence can provide people with a great deal of enjoyment and improve their wellbeing by making them feel good about themselves and their life experiences.

“If families find out now about the important milestones in their parents’ lives, it will help them to encourage reminiscence in later years.”

Bupa runs St William’s care home in Cornwall Avenue, Darlington and St Mark’s, in Hartburn Lane, Stockton.
