WORK is about to commence on a £2m community sports hall at a Darlington school.
Longfield Academy of Sport, in Longfield Road, was given planning permission for the development earlier this year.
A turf-cutting ceremony took place on Monday (October 15), with construction workers due on site within a week.
The development will include a four-court sports hall, changing rooms, community gym, Lawn Tennis Association-standard tennis courts and extra car parking.
Staff at the school have been working to secure funding for the sports hall for the past ten years.
It is anticipated that the sports hall will be completed by next summer.
