A SESSION that aims to take away some of the mystery and jargon surrounding the new Localism Bill will be hosted by a community organisation.

The Localism Bill, set to come into force in the coming months, will change the role of communities and how they argue for and against local development planning.

In particular villages or parish areas will be able to create a Neighbourhood Plan, outlining specifically what development they would like to see in the coming years.

A free programme of events, organised by the Tees Valley Rural Community Council, will be held at The Studio, in The Dolphin Centre, Darlington, on Monday (Oct 22) at 2.30pm or 5.50pm.

The session will help people find out how the bill fits into Darlington Borough Council’s timetable and the choices available for shaping local communities.

Doff Pollard (CORR), chief officer of Tees Valley Rural Community Council, said: “ As part of the new regulations associated with the legislation, local authorities can apply for up to £30,000 to support individual Neighbourhood Plans for specific communities.

“This makes consideration of undertaking a Neighbourhood Plan a more realistic option for communities.” The programme will also include advice on the progress and timetable for the Darlington local development plan and neighbourhood plans, alternative ways of contributing to the local plan and a group discussion about the opportunities for local areas.
