A DARLINGTON dyslexia charity is holding a fundraiser to raise awareness of the learning disability.

Dyslexia Action, in Woodland Road, Darlington, will host a coffee morning on Saturday, October 13, for parents and carers to find out more about dyslexia and how to help with a new support group.

The event forms part of Dyslexia Awareness Week, which starts on Monday, October 8, with organisers asking the public to sign a petition to make dyslexia and specific learning difficulties training mandatory within initial teacher training.

Kay Bowes, manager of Darlington’s Dyslexia Action centre, said: “Dyslexia can have a huge effect and it is important dyslexia organisations and the government take action now to empower teachers and raise awareness and understanding of the hidden disability among children, parents and adults.

“No child should be left struggling in a classroom and neither should a teacher.”

The coffee morning takes place between 10am and noon.
