A SWIMMER who had a kidney transplant more than 25 years ago is appealing for sponsors to help her represent her country for the eighth time.
Denise Baker, 53, from Darlington, has won more than 50 medals at the British Transplant Games and the World Transplant Games since she started competing in 1994.
The grandmother-of-two, who had a kidney transplant in 1987, has been chosen as a member of the Great Britain team for the world games in South Africa next year, but must provide her own funding to get there.
She is now looking for local businesses who can help her fund the £3,000 she needs to take part.
Mrs Baker will compete in the 400m and 200m freestyle, the 50m butterfly, the 100m backstroke and team relays.
Last month, Mrs Baker took part in the British Transplant Games, in Kent, and came home with gold, silver and bronze medals.
Anyone who can help Mrs Baker is asked to call 01325- 358943.
