A CATTERY struggling to cope with a surge in homeless pets is appealing for new owners to adopt their friendly felines.
Sadberge Boarding Kennels and Cattery normally only takes paid-for animals, but has recently taken on a number of unwanted pets to prevent them from being put down after rehoming charities had no room for them.
Sophie Moran, who works at the kennels, said the amount of homeless cats taken on by the cattery this year has been the worst she has ever seen.
She said: “We are so full we have had to turn some pets away. The number of adult cats being sent to us is the worst it’s ever been.
“It seems to be that owners are moving into rented accommodation and cannot take their pets with them, and other owners are elderly and can no longer care for their cat.
“We have a number of cats of all ages, as well as kittens, who desperately need a good home.”
For anyone thinking of rehoming an animal, the kennels are holding an open day for prospective owners to meet the cats and decide which pet is for them.
The event will run from noon until 6pm on Sunday, September 30 at the kennels, on Middleton Road, in Sadberge.
