PUPILS and parents are to get the first glimpse of plans for a £2m sporting facility as a Darlington school opens its doors to the community.
Longfield School, which became an academy of sport in August last year, will be showcasing its multi-million pound scheme at a year six open afternoon and evening on Thursday, September 18.
The facility, which will include a four court sports hall, classroom, ICT facility and multi-gym, will provide a training resource for the school and the local community.
Deputy headteacher Sara Jackson said: “Building is about to start on our new sports centre, which should be completed by next summer.
“As well as creating new facilities, we have also continued to move forward with an extensive refurbishment programme, on our existing building, providing us with a much more enhanced learning environment for our students.”
The open event, which runs from 2pm and 6.30pm, will also allow prospective pupils, parents and carers to explore the school.
They will be able offered the opportunity to experience a variety of different lessons, meet with the staff, and discover host of extra-curricular and enrichment activities on offer.
