Darlington are carrying a number of injuries that may have an impact on selection this evening, but they take on a team in dire straights.
Kettering Town have been hit by financial problems and have been unable to pay players' wages which has led to the departure of around half of the squad in recent weeks amid fears they would not be able to name a full team at Nene Park tonight.
In training yesterday goalkeeper Laurie Walker was used as a striker while Cherries boss Mark Stimson, the former Newcastle United defender, had a squad of only 13 on Saturday at York City.
His team lost 7-0, the fifth defeat in a seven-game winless run in the league during which they have conceded 22 goals that has seen them drop to 20th.
One of York's goals was scored by Moses Ashikodi, a player among the Kettering exodus that has also seen former Quaker loanee Aman Verma head for Mansfield Town.
But the heavy defeat should act as a warning against complacency, says Darlington caretaker boss Craig Liddle who has problems of his own to contend with.
"They'll be wounded after losing 7-0," he said. "They'll be upset and want to prove a point so that means we cannot take anything for granted.
"The boys trained on Sunday which I think is only right to get prepared for a Tuesday game."
Darlington's 0-0 draw at home to Forest Green Rovers on Saturday, which meant the team moved up one place to 13th, saw both Paul Arnison and Kris Taylor play through injuries while Jamie Chandler limped off with a shin injury.
He hopes to play this evening while not being fully fit, while John McReady is optimistic he can feature despite a back problem that ruled him out of Saturday's match.
The 19-year-old is most likely to replace Marc Bridge-Wilkinson who serves a one-match ban, while there remains a question mark over Aaron Brown's ankle problem, but Liam Hatch returns from suspension.
Liddle said: "The injuries are a worry. Arni played through an injury on Saturday and Kris Taylor was 50-50 and even as late as 12.30 on the day of the game we weren't sure he could make it.
"He's come in for a bit of unfair criticism in my eyes because he put a shift in for the team. he good thing for me is that people want to be back and they want to be fit. Aaron pushed himself and nearly made it."
Hatch's return should see Graeme Lee return to centre-back after playing as a forward at the weekend, but 18-year-old Scott Harrison will travel after performing well on his debut.
Harrison is more likely to play in the FA Youth Cup tie at Newcastle United on Thursday than tonight.
Liddle added: "I've got to be mindful of the fact that he did extremely well on Saturday, but I've got to be careful and protect him. If he doesn't feature on Tuesday it won't be due to any other reason than his development."
Despite Kettering's problems, Quakers should take nothing for granted as they have a record this season for not being able to defeat struggling teams having failed to defeat all of the current bottom three sides.
One of bottom-of-the-table Bath City's two league wins this season was against Darlington while both Alfreton and Hayes & Yeading drew at The Northern Echo Arena.
The game is being played Rushden & Diamonds' former home as Kettering moved there in the summer from Rockingham Road.
