PATRONS of the arts flocked to the under-threat Darlington Arts Centre at the weekend.
The Christmas Art Fair, held on Saturday, attracted many people to see art demonstrations, listen to live music, and do some Christmas shopping.
Last week, plans were revealed by Darlington Borough Council's cabinet to close the venue and set up a new arts hub in the centre of town.
Heather Carter, committee member of Darlington for Culture (DfC), who organised the Christmas Art Fair, said: "There have been a lot of people coming through the doors.
"But today is not an exception, as we've seen a lot of interest in the Arts Centre recently, particularly the Monday and Tuesday night events.
"We had a quiz night recently and we attracted more than 100 people, we also had a tea dance last week, which drew in about the same number of supporters."
Among the acts performing at the fair was Locos-in-Motion morris dancing group from Sadberge, who were a talking point among fairgoers with their unusual black costumes.
Musicians performing included folk band Atlantic Roots, and Americana band Copperhead Still.
The proposal to close the Arts Centre, which is in a three-month consultation period, is part of the council's drive to save £10.8m over four years.
